Excursions from Tallinn port

Although Tallinn is the largest city of Estonia it is relatively small comparing to other European capital cities – it has a population of approx. 420 000 people. Our guide will meet you at the harbour and after 5-10 minutes walking you will admire the old town of the city. During our tour you will see Town Walls with Great Coastal Gate and Fat Margaret Tower, House of the Brotherhood of Black Heads, Orthodox Church of St Nicholas and Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin also called Dome Church – main Lutheran church in Estonia situated on Toompea Hill. During the walk we will be able to enjoy really nice view from the top of the city of the Town Hall Square and other parts of Tallinn’s Old Town. Other highlights on our way will be: Danish King’s Garden on the slopes  of Toompea Hill, Toompea Castle where today Estonian Parliament has its seat, Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral and many others picturesque sites of Tallinn’s Old Town which was included by UNESCO in the World Heritage List.

Your tour starts from the cruise port with a drive to the upper section of Tallinn of the best-preserved medieval town in Northern Europe. Within these fortified walls you will be stepping back in time and travelling on foot to explore the unique treasures within. You will see our famous Dome Church which took over 2 centuries to complete and the opulent Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. There are the 15th century gothic Town Hall in the Town Hall Square and the oldest continuously functioning pharmacy in the world. You will hear the interesting history and legends of Tallinn.

Tour continues on to Kadriorg park with it’s majestic baroque woodland, ascending rose gardens and a swan pond. Kadriorg is home to the beautiful Kadriorg Palace which was built as a summer residence for the Russian Empress, Catharine the 1st. The tour continues with a drive along beautiful Pirita seaside. Then, on to the Olympic Yacht Center, built to host the 1980 Olympic sailing events. Nearby lies the popular Pirita beach and the romantic ruins of St. Bridget’s Convent.

Along the way you will see Kadriorg Park where Czar, Peter the Great had a magnificent summer palace built. The park is also home to the Presidential Palace. Lahemaa National Park offers visitors a wonderful perspective of rural life in northern Estonia through the ages. Here are located several beautifully restored grand manor estates including Palmse and Sagadi. The Palmse manor house, which you will get to tour extensively, offers a wonderful insight to the life of Baltic nobility in the 18th and 19th centuries. Our next stop is the Sagadi manor estate, although smaller in size, is very popular with local nature enthusiasts as it is home to a nature academy and the national forestry museum.

After You will visit a coastal village of Altja. There You can still see the original fishing huts used to store and maintain fishing nets and small boats. Afternoon enjoy a walking tour in the Tallinn old town. From the Toompea hill you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the lower town. After you will visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, a 19th century Russian Orthodox basilica and St. Mary’s Cathedral, also known as the Dome Church which exhibits a peculiar mix of architectural styles as it took over 2 centuries to complete.
